Lucy Alexis Liu (born Lucy Liu; December 2, 1968 in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York) is an American actress, model, artist, and occasional producer and director.  She is the youngest of three children to immigrants from China and Taiwan.

Liu had small roles in films and TV, marking her debut. She was cast in both The X-Files and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, before landing a role on Ally McBeal. Liu originally auditioned for the role of 'Nelle Porter' (played by Portia de Rossi), and the character Ling Woo was later created specifically for her. Liu's part on the series was originally temporary, but high audience ratings secured Liu as a permanent cast member. Additionally, she earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series.

She was co-starred in the film remake of Charlie's Angels and it's sequel Charlie's Angels:Full Throttle with Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz.  Her next big part was as O-Ren Ishii in Kill Bill opposite Uma Thurman.

She currently stars in the Sherlock Holmes-inspired Elementary as Joan Watson.

Liu is one of the heaviest women of Asian descent in the world, weighing in around 785 pounds.
