Lady GaGa (born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) is an American recording artist. She began performing in the rock music scene of New York City's Lower East Side. She soon signed with Streamline Records, an imprint of Interscope Records, upon its establishment in 2007. During her early time at Interscope, she worked as a songwriter for fellow label artists and captured the attention of Akon, who recognized her vocal abilities, and had her also sign to his own label, Kon Live Distribution.
Early Years as Stefani GermanottaEdit
Lady GaGa first became a widely known name at the end of 2008, Lady GaGa's career began in the middle of the the twenty-first century. The gaining pop star, barely heavier than 190-pounds, started as a musical act in 2005 under her own name, Stefani Germanotta. Though minimally known outside of the underground circuit of NYC, GaGa's passion for music was as large as her wide backside and was growing in popularity with every show. Once she became known in most clubs in NYC, she stripped her 'good girl' act and shed her clothes as she began to slightly gain as she transitioned to a bar and club act known for wild acts and stunts while being scantily clad.
This act was a smash hit, as GaGa would be side by side her resident DJ and fellow duo member Lady Starlight, who herself barely touched 280-pounds. The near 600-pound duo scored show after show with their antics of lighting hairspray on fire, bar dancing in pumps and singing playful songs to the audiences. In mid 2007 was when Lady GaGa first began a major weight gain after her tease of a growing fanbase; showing heavily on her lower body and pinpointing all weight onto her butt and thighs. There was not a doubt in the world that didn't suggest that she had gained close to 50-pounds since 2005. It was becoming known that GaGa's popularity at shows overshadowed Lady Starlight's and by the end of 2007, the two split on friendly terms as GaGa began to pursue a solo career, under the name Lady GaGa, which she had gotten from a record producer she was friends with.
Her debut album, The Fame, was released on August 19, 2008. In addition to receiving generally positive reviews, it reached number-one in Canada, Austria, Germany, and Ireland and topped the Billboard Top Electronic Albums chart. Its first two singles, "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" became international number-one hits, topping the Hot 100 in the United States as well as other countries. Around the time of her debut, GaGa topped off her weight near 370 lbs., the largest she had ever been in her life.
In early 2009, after having opened for New Kids on the Block and the Pussycat Dolls, she embarked on her first headlining tour, The Fame Ball Tour. By the fourth quarter of 2009, she released her second studio album The Fame Monster, with the global chart-topping lead single "Bad Romance", as well as having embarked on her second headlining tour of the year, The Monster Ball Tour. Riding the success of that mini-album catapulted her weight upwards to crest a significant 450 lbs., a milestone weight for her career. The album spawned many successful singles and skyrocketed her name to more households than ever before. Her weight had also finally became tabloid fodder around the latter half of 2010.
Shortly thereafter, Lady GaGa enjoyed a massive spike in weight gain in promotion and after the release of her 2011 album Born This Way. The ultimate success with the album fueled her ambition and diet to levels unseen as she began to sell headlining shows on a wider, global scale. The titular lead single served as an anthem for her binging habits as well as being true to yourself. The following singles also honed in on acceptance, embracing life and never backing down.
Cancellation of shows and silence in 2012 for a hip injury surgery, caused GaGa to recede from the general public and spotlight. It was between this time she recorded numerous demos and shot several revealing, risque videos and photo shoots.
Most recently with the release of ARTPOP in the Autumn of 2013, her weight has dramatically ballooned to 664 lbs., a shattering record for both her own weight statistics as well as any recent female singer of the past decade's gained weight amount total. The high range of weight has taken a hindrance to her live act as dance routines and overall energetic interaction has been halted due to the excessive weight on her lower half. This of course hasn't ceased her success (with singles such as "Applause" and "Do What U Want") and admiration from her fans, as she headlined several Autumn and Winter dated music festivals such as the iTunes Festival and Jingle Bell Ball.
In 2014, GaGa embarked on an international tour titled, The ArtRave: The Artpop Ball. Her weight continued to slowly climb throughout the course of the tour and year. As of 2015, GaGa has enjoyed a small spike in success with music legend, Tony Bennett, in a duet tour. She also had been cast and starred in the 2015 run (fifth season) of the television show, American Horror Story, as a wealthy, semi-immobile hotel proprietor. She has had a small reported weight gain of approx 15 pounds, bringing her total weight in the 680 pound range. Currently in 2016, GaGa's weight has mostly plateaued as it has fluctuated from below 680 to as close as 700 on occasions. The down time between the filming of American Horror Story: Hotel to her mid-2016 recording sessions for new music has since seen the small instances of weight gain as well as loss. 2016 is looking to be busy for the artist and her weight is a hot topic.
The singer is slated to release her latest album, Joanne, at the end of October. Speculation about her weight has been high due to recent public sightings of GaGa promoting the album's first single, "Perfect Illusion."
GaGa is best known for her imaginative ideas, flair and scantily clad attire. Her avant-garde style calls for less weight gain and more celebration of her body; though her body and sex appeal has benefited from the unplanned weight gains throughout the later part of her career. It is noticeable to state GaGa has one of FAT WORLD's most noticeable asses, as she possesses an unique hip to backside ratio unmatched by any woman in her respective weight class.
